I found this earlier and forgot to post it. It goes well with the assignment theme!! Its a flashback to earlier media forms, but culture jammed with today's technology.
And how hilarious...Cola for a better child. Drink cola to fit in!! Boy...wish my mom had given me more cola when I was a kid.

I love how the author of this culture jam used an old advertisement. During this time period there were so many fad ideas and advertisements that filled these types of magazines, and it wouldn't surprise me if this ad actually existed.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it always the truth: things that are not good for you, make you look "cool" and you do it in order to fit in (ie. smoking).
Who invents these things?? Who determines what is "cool" and what is not? Just some things I thought about.

"for a better start in life, start Cola earlier!...yeah, that's right, the one with Cocaine in it!"
ReplyDeleteGood find indeed!
I totally agree with Keekers about the whole bad things being 'cool' thing.Plus, if a scientist said it, it has to be true! Right? hmmm..

This was a good culture jam. I really enjoyed the retro-feel of the thing. It has a good message too, people forget that even modern day coke (or pepsi) are both addictive substances. I have a couple of friends who have fairly severe physiological caffeine addictions. They literally NEED to drink it or they get bad headaches. It's sad that a lot of these "harmless" advertisements that are for "kids'" products can have bad repressions.
