Twilight Fan Sites??

I got to thinking about texts we read and how they are gendered, and how the wonder of the world wide web has connected fans together. Since we've spent a bit of time discussing Twilight in class, I decided to search out Twilight Fan sites and see if they were gendered or not. We know that girls make up the major audience of the text, but is this evident when examining their fansites?

I've come up with one that seems to answer this affectively... I've always been curious about 'Twi-Mom's" but this website really hasn't given me many answers. TwiMama's Blog consists of a group of Mom's who "went from a shopping addiction to a Twilight Obsession". Don't even get me started on the stereotypes that supports... but then check on the actual blog material, which consists of about 20 images of Robert Pattinson and disclaimers such as "Warning: Spontaneous Ovulation and panty dropping may occur! You have been warned!" They actually have an entire gallery of Robert Pattinson that you can check out on the site.... and I thought this site was about the Twilight Books??

Since I'm in the library and supposed to be researching for a paper and not creeping Twilight Fansites... I'm gonna leave this one up to you... Do you guys know of any particularly gendered Twilight Fansites, or fansites in general?? Or do you think fansites can be gendered at all??

  1. I think that many of these fan site as gendered especially the Twilight ones. There are always tons of pics of Robert Patterson and people talk about how hot he is, but how often is Bella mentioned? Pretty much never unless girls are saying that they wish they could be her. I think that fansites are gendered by the way their texts are gendered Twilight would be more female gendered because the books were female gendered but a hockey fansite would most likely be gendered towards men.
However at the same time fansites allow people to easily break away from the gendering of texts because they are usually anonymous and people feel they can be more secretive about things they like.

  2. A hilarious site about twilight is http://www.movietome.com/news/30479/the-top-ten-most-bizarre-pieces-of-twilight-merchandising which features the weirdest twilight merch. The merch featured on the site does suggest that twilight is gendered, based on the fact that there are bras and underwear, as well as a super creepy Edward cut out for your wall...
Along with this, I've also seen white sparkley dildos...intense. Anyway..pretty hilarious.

  3. ok, Twilight has seemed to have lost some steam during the down times, but i know one girl (who is still in highschool) that has changed her name on facebook to Cullen ... not obsessed at all!

I think people are trying to grasp on to whatever is left and make the storyline last longer so they will not lose their beloved characters. I think people follow the news and what not of Twilght kind of like a soap but there is less information spread over a length of time. Because once you have read the books, what else can you learn about the characters?

I think it is the only way for the audience to hold on to their fantasies of either Jacob ;) or edward.

I have found a website that is for people who dream of twilight .. hmm ...
